Working with a judge can be a life-changing experience. It’s an opportunity to participate in the process of judicial decision-making. And, of course, learning from one of the finest legal minds in the country can leave a lasting impact.

A 2018 graduate of National Law University, Jodhpur, decided that he wanted to experience this first-hand. While his long-term goal was to litigate, he first wanted to understand how a judge’s mind operates. To get the clerkship, he wrote a wonderful cover letter that we’ve uploaded here.

This draft ticks many boxes. It’s crisp. It clearly explains the applicant’s motivations to clerk with a judge. And it also makes a case for how the applicant will be able to contribute in the judge’s chamber.
